About A Smooth Move
It all began with the desire to help our community. In 2006, A Smooth Move was founded by Brian and Kimberly Alwin to fulfill a community need–to offer moving services centered around the needs of older adults.
Since then, A Smooth Move has faithfully served Rochester, MN with a caring approach and its attention to detail. Our #1 goal is to make moving easy for older adults. That is why we provide services you won’t find with a standard moving company.
We offer packing and transportation services, decluttering, cleaning, sorting & downsizing, furniture setup, and post-move services. We will even install floor and door jamb protectors. Because each client is different, your move can be customized according to the services you need.
As of 2020 we now serve the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
A Moving Company Specialized in Working with Adults with Dementia
A Smooth Move helps families during moves of loved ones with dementia. We have specialized training in this field. Families can confidently take their loved one out for the day trusting we will work our magic, packing critical items and quickly setting up the new secure memory unit in a familiar manner. Our sensitive team supports the client and their family with this extremely difficult transition with respect and understanding.
Our expert handling within this area is inspired by co-owner Kimberly’s own experiences caring for a loved one with dementia. The knowledge we bring is a reflection of how we care for our own family members with these struggles.

Kimberly Alwin
Owner/Founder/Visionary
Kimberly launched “A Smooth Move” in 2006, with her husband Brian to support people through what can be a difficult time. Her training in family counseling has been a perfect fit in delivering successful transitions.
Fun Facts:
- She is extremely structured when it comes to work, but on her off time, she carries a “come what may” attitude.
- She has visited ALL 50 US States.
- She enjoys picking up snakes, frogs and turtles, but spiders scare her.
Brian Alwin
Owner/Founder/Integrator
Brian started “A Smooth Move”, with his wife Kimberly, in 2006, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge ranging from information technology to auto mechanics. Brian’s “can do” attitude inspires everyone around him to reach for the stars.
Fun Facts:
- He is an airplane pilot who served as a Captain & Squadron Commander in the Civil Air Patrol.
- He is very serious minded on the outside but has a great sense of humor.
- He is chocohalic, history buff and trivia expert of useless facts.
Jonah VanProosdy
Visionary
Jonah has rejoined the “Smooth Move” family, to lead us into the future, successfully supporting older adults in transition. With a background of leadership, at Minnesota’s largest chemical dependency treatment facility, Jonah brings patience, skill and passion for serving others to our team with a focus on caring for our clients and their belongings. Jonah and his wife Eden have five precious children. The youngest, Micah, born in January, 2023.
Fun Facts:
- He comes from big family of 9 children.
- He was formally a breakdancer and can still spin on his head.
- He delights in his wife and five children as his richest blessings in this world.
Darcy Youngstrom
Move Manager
Darcy joined the Smooth Move family in 2022 although her first experience with the company was in 2017 when A Smooth Move assisted her in-laws with a downsize/move. Darcy and her husband live in Rochester and keep the front door wide open for their two adult children and two labrador dogs.
Fun Facts:
- Darcy enjoys watching college basketball (go Drake Bulldogs!)
- She has worked with middle/high school aged youth for 25 years
Matt Eidem
Driver/Mover/Move Manager
Matt joined the “Smooth Move” family in 2012, bringing with him a friendly, positive attitude that helps motivate and encourage others to perform at the highest level possible. Matt is husband to Hannah and father of four.
Fun Facts:
- Matt is an extremely talented musician, playing guitar, bass, piano and he can even sing.
- As a kid, he was known for climbing trees while wearing rollerblades.
- He can ride a unicycle.
Darwin Bicknese
Driver/Mover
Serving others has always been a big part of who I am, whether serving at my church, working construction or managing a restaurant. By far my greatest blessings are my wife and two boys.
Fun Facts:
- I enjoy sports – playing them with my boys, coaching or watching
- I have an entire cupboard dedicated to SNACKS!
Markus Miller
Mover
Fun Facts:
Markus lives and works on a dairy farm
He taps and makes maple syrup every spring
Markus enjoys ultra-lite camping, paddling and the Boundary Waters canoe area
Andrew Bruno
Mover
Fun Facts:
Andrew has 2 children, one girl and one boy
He is from St Paul, MN

Kim Reiman
Professional Packer
Kim joined the “Smooth Move” family in 2017, bringing a smile and sincere desire to meet our clients every moving need with her. Kim’s many skills as a home maker and close relationship with her family are showered on our clients.
Fun Facts:
- Kim enjoys card games and has a special talent with numbers.
- Her patience is as deep as the ocean.
- While Kim doesn’t have a pet, at this time, she is always willing to dog-sit, when asked.
Denise Butler
Professional Packer
Denise joined the Smooth Move family in 2023. She brings a hard working, caring and compassionate work ethic to all she does. She loves helping people from babies to our elderly and everyone in between. Family is very important to her.
Fun Facts:
- Denise and Mike (her husband) have been married for 42 years!
- She has 2 daughters and two beautiful grandchildren
- She likes helping her sister with estate sales and volunteers at her church and at her grandkids schools.
Mary DuBall
Professional Packer
Mary joined the Smooth Move family in 2024. She has lived in Rochester for 29 years and been married for 36 years. She has two grown children and loves cooking, baking, hiking biking and traveling.
Fun Facts:
- Mary grew up on a Century farm in Wisconsin
- She is 100% Dutch
- Mary loves caring for people and helping them in their time of need
